Garden Of Life – Whole Food In A Capsule
By: Kwan H Lo
Nutritional supplement is one of the hottest products in the market these days. It is estimated that more than half of adult Americans use vitamin supplements regularly. Many people also consume mineral supplements, digestive enzymes and herbal supplements. But are all supplements made equal? While many manufacturers are producing cheap isolated vitamins and mineral supplements, Garden of Life is setting a new standard in nutritional supplements with all natural whole food ingredients.
Garden of Life products include broad spectrum probiotic formula with beneficial live microorganisms, broad spectrum digestive enzymes, super green formula packed with antioxidant green grasses, micro algae, whole vegetables and their juice, broad-base whole food vitamin and mineral supplements containing whole fruits, vegetables, mushroom and herbs, and other functional foods.
The advantages of whole food supplements are easy to explain. First of all, they are more like food than isolated vitamins. They are easier to absorb and metabolize, and less likely to cause toxic effect due to overdose. Secondly, they contain micronutrients and phytonutrients that are absent in isolated or synthetic vitamins and minerals. Some of these nutrients are cofactors required for proper absorption and assimilation of essential nutrients. Some active phytonutrients work synergistically, i.e. their beneficial effects increase when they are consumed together. Some nutrients are not biologically active themselves, but potentiate the effects of other active ingredients.
These premium whole food supplements are not made without a price. For example, Garden of Life Living Multi is a natural vitamin & mineral supplement with 76 whole food concentrates. While cheap multi-vitamin supplements are only $10 per bottle, Garden of Life Living Multi costs you 4-5 times more. But when it comes to health and nutrition, there is something else to consider other than the price. The question is: would you prefer isolated vitamins and minerals and take them as “drugs” or a complete matrix of food nutrients found in nature?

Get Healthy With Digestive Enzymes
By: Jeff Wend
Working as a nutritional consultant, I get asked a lot, “If our body does make our own digestive enzymes, then why do we need to supplement them?”
My usual response to that question is you most likely don’t need to supplement them if and only if you are eating approximately 90% fresh raw foods which naturally contain enzymes. However, as you and I both know, this is not the case, especially with the Standard American Diet, appropriately abbreviated at SAD.
When we eat, our food sits in our stomach for about 45 minutes before making its way through the duodenum. Not enough digestion occurs in our stomachs because we lake the enzymes naturally found in foods which is killed in heating and processing.
So imagine the benefit of adding a balanced broad spectrum digestive enzyme supplement to this process.
Approximately 60-80% of our energy goes to digestion. Supplementing digestive enzymes greatly reduces the burden on the pancreas and the entire digestive process by assisting in breaking down foods into smaller and smaller components that become much easier to assimilate. This greatly increases our energy.
I have had reports back from people who take digestive enzymes that after eating they used to feel full and sluggish. But after taking them, they are filled with energy and no longer slip into the “food coma” after a large meal.
It is believed by many nutritionists that our bodies have a specific “enzyme potential” that can be exhausted. Our bodies make two main kinds of enzymes, digestive, and metabolic. Digestive deals with digesting food, and metabolic deal with other processes such as tissue repair.
When we are not eating enough raw foods, or supplementing digestive enzymes, the body uses resources that should go towards metabolic enzymes and puts them towards digestion. So, in essence, supplementing digestive enzymes will help to keep the whole body younger and healthier by allowing our metabolic enzymes do their job properly.
It is my opinion that unless you are eating a very well balanced, 80-90% raw food diet, everyone should supplement a digestive enzyme.
People who supplement digestive enzymes report improvements in health problems such as heartburn, indigestion, gerd, diarrhea, constipation, diabetes, bloating, and a host of other health problems.
When looking for a good enzyme to take, make sure your product is broad spectrum, plant based, and broad ph so that it can work in both the acidic stomach, and alkaline intestines.

Discover The Power Of Living Foods!
By: Randy Powell
There is definitely an advantage to eating a huge amount of living plant food each and everyday! These foods contain the life force necessary to help keep you healthy and free of disease. The living energy found in these foods will help you grow older with clearer skin, nails that are much stronger and hair that is less likely to fall out. The problem is that we have been trained to eat an unhealthy diet and becoming untrained can be tough.
Undoing a lifetime of habit can be quite a challenge. We began learning things as small children and build upon this knowledge as we get older. As we get comfortable with these learned habits, the thought of sudden change becomes less and less of a possibility. This is why we should teach our young children to eat an abundance of living veggies and fruits. Establishing a habit among your children of eating lots of living vegetables and fruits is one of the best things you could ever teach another human being. In the U.S., most adults and children don’t even come close to the minimum recommended daily servings of 2-4 fruits and 3-5 vegetables. And if you’re getting your fruits and vegetables from the market, more than likely you aren’t getting an adequate dose of maturely present phytochemicals.
Phytochemicals are chemicals found in plant food that serve particular functions in the human body, depending on which of the several thousands of phytochemicals you are discussing. Different plant foods have different phytochemicals and you should eat a variety everyday to ensure you get plenty of them. The more of these living enzymes you get over time, the better you will feel and the better you health will be. A true nutritional role for phytochemicals is becoming more probable every day as research uncovers more of their remarkable benefits. One of the cutting edge subjects on phytochemicals is their role in anti aging.
As we moved away from eating the way our ancestors did, we began to develop diseases that now kill millions of people a year. Signs of these epidemics are not seen in rural parts of the world where people eat much more of a plant based diet.. These people have been reported to live long, healthy lives that are free of such illnesses as cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. People on such diets seem to have an anti aging quality in relation to their physical health. According to the American Cancer Society- "eating at least five servings of fruits and vegetables each day as part of a healthy diet can help reduce your risk of cancer." This must be taken far more seriously than it is.
On the basis of modern research, biochemical researchers have identified certain phytochemicals that aid the body in keeping your immune strong and combating disease at all times. As an overall guideline, health authorities recommend that we consume diets rich in whole grains, raw fruits and vegetables as well as greatly reduce animal fat consumption. Eating beans, raw nuts and unheated vegetable oils will enhance your immune system to provide optimal protection from disease.

Digestive Fiber: Better Health, Nutrition And Disease Fighter
By: Brandon H. Masters
We’ve all heard of the importance of having a high-fiber, but do you know why? Fiber is essentially a natural disease fighter in the body, being credited with lowering cholesterol levels and helping to ward off heart disease.
When you eat fatty foods, you’re eating cholesterol. It’s a fat-soluble item that is usually found in meat and other products made from animals. In the form you eat it, it cannot be eliminated from the body, because it is too hard for the system to break down and move it through. Instead, when you eat cholesterol, your body has to chemically change it into a water-soluble form with the help of the liver which will produce a digestive fluid, know as bile, and then store the broken down cholesterol in the gallbladder.
The bile that has been stored in the gall bladder is now relatively toxic. It’s holding on to that broken down cholesterol, histamines from the body and other items that need to be removed from your system. This is where fiber comes in to help out. The fiber will absorb the bile compound and remove it, as well as the broken down cholesterol, from your body in your next bowel movement. This keeps the cholesterol from staying in your body, thus helping you keep a healthy cholesterol level.
In addition to helping on the cholesterol front, fiber will also help defend your body against diabetes. When you eat foods high in fiber, they break down and create sugar gradually. This slow and constant break down, then absorption of sugars by the body, keep your blood sugar levels steady and lessen the change of developing diabetes.
A recent study conducted by members of Tufts University in Boston may have found a link in high-fiber diets and lowering blood pressure as well. They tested a number of people on their blood pressure levels. Then they put some of them on a 6-week high-fiber diet. Those on the diet saw their systolic blood pressure drop by about 7 points. The belief is that since fiber breaks down slowly into sugars for the body, it also controls the insulin levels. Insulin is created in the pancreas when digestion is happening. Fast increases in insulin levels to counter high absorption of sugars in the body can cause blood pressure to go up as well. The slower breakdown of fiber causes both levels to remain steady and healthy.
They key to being a recipient of the benefits of fiber is to make sure there is enough of it in your diet. Take a look at what you eat and make sure there is a large portion of high-fiber foods included. These foods are vegetables such as squash, spinach, broccoli, carrots, brussel sprouts, beans and endive. Fruits are another high fiber source, so add fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, apples, bananas, coconut and pineapple to your diet.

What Is Organic Foods? – Organic Food Definition
By: Shabi
While most of us have heard about organic foods we may not have that much of an idea about what this term means. So where can you get this information without getting bogged down by the technical jargon. There are a number of different places like dictionaries, encyclopedias, television shows and even the internet. The main item to remember when you are looking for organic food definition is in many cases the standard answer.
The first thing to understand about organic food definition only covers the tip of the iceberg as the saying goes. Well the basics of organic food is quite simply food that is grown without any sort of man made substances being poured over it, around it and even inserted under it. The condition for the growing of the organic matter has to be composed of 100% natural environment.
Now that we have covered the organic food definition is short we should take a closer look at this subject. For any food to be classified as being an organic food it needs to be free from all genetically modified internal cell structures. The plant must be like the ones that you see growing in the wild – but ones that we can eat without getting poisoned – and their inner cell structure should not have been tampered with.
Next the land that you are choosing to plant these 100% organic plants should be absolutely free from all traces of chemicals. To allow the land time to recover from the abuse of these harmful products like chemicals and pesticides you should uproot any chemically treated plants. Then you will need to leave the land alone for about 2 to 4 years.
This time period will allow the land to recover from the various chemicals which were heaped on it. Once you are sure that the land is ready for planting begin by fertilizing the land with organic fertilizers. These fertilizers will help prepare the land for plants. The first phase of organic food definition includes the preparation of the land where the food is to be grown.
Now you can plant your organic plant into the soil. Using only techniques which are healthy for your garden or land you should make sure that friendly bugs and plants are used to protect your garden’s harvest from plant hungry insects.
The entire combination package of chemical free land, organically produced plants and environmentally safe pesticides – read spiders and ladybugs here – along with protective, sweet smelling (to us that is) plants is what is ultimately meant by the organic food definition.
